Sanford Children’s Hospital underwent a very rigorous Joint Commission survey in December 2009, receiving official notice just five days later it successfully passed the survey. The staff and physicians at Sanford Children’s prepared and educated themselves for this survey, even before its official opening. The surveyors were not only in awe over the incredible beauty of the Castle of Care™, but were extremely impressed with the staff and physicians who they encountered during their visit.

Founded in 1951, The Joint Commission seeks to continuously improve healthcare for the public by evaluating healthcare organizations and inspiring them to excel in providing safe and effective care of the highest quality and value. The Joint Commission evaluates and accredits more than 17,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States. To earn and maintain The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™, an organization must undergo an on-site survey by a Joint Commission survey team at least every three years.
