An extensive remodeling project turned the former pediatric and pediatric intensive care (PICU) unit at Sanford USD Medical Center into a new pulmonary unit. The new unit’s capacity is 39 beds, which is an increase of 24 beds. The former PICU became the location for chronic ventilator patients.
In addition, the larger rooms have designated staff, patient and family space. There are also two family waiting spaces located on the unit as well as a private consultation room. The new unit also includes a designated physician space, staff lounge, staff locker room and conference room.
