MeritCares 61for61 Fundraiser Gearing Up for a Great Weekend of Events
In their 13th year hosting a radiothon for MeritCare, Robbie Daniels and Dave Jacobs of The Fox have seen the donations grow every year. Dave Jacobs says, "It's a community thing. We're the vehicle. We're here to provide the conduit in which you make the donations happen." To date, the donations have topped over one million dollars, which have gone directly to fund equipment, research, support for and services to cancer patients in the surrounding area through Roger Maris Cancer Center.
This year, the location will be the SunMart parking lot on the corner of 25th St. and 32nd Ave. S. in Fargo. Daniels and Jacobs will be on location the first two days from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sept. 26. In addition to being able to stop by and see them, there is a silent auction with some spectacular items such as a keyboard signed by both Elton John and Billy Joel as well as guitars signed by The Eagles and AC/DC. Tickets to national shows will also be available for bid.
Besides the radiothon, there will also be the annual walk/run to raise funds for the event. Pre-registration begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, at MeritCare Southpointe. Pre-registration can also be done on the MeritCare Web site, 61for61.meritcare.com, and by filling out a form and sending it in. The fee is $25 if you register until Sept. 17, and $30 after than until the day of the race.
The race begins at 9 a.m. from MeritCare Southpointe. The course goes through Rose Creek and onto River Drive before winding its way back to the Southpointe location. The running course is US Track and Field certified. The walking course goes through some of the same beautiful locations and is designed for both competitive and non-competitive walkers.
Tom Clow, the race director for both events, says, "It's a great activity to get healthy or stay healthy. The proceeds go to a great cause. It's typically a beautiful fall day, and it's a very well supported event. It's very popular with a lot of people who want to support the cause and participate directly in honor or memory of someone they know who has had or does have cancer."
Both events are designed to raise funds for Roger Maris Cancer Center as well as to provide a fun time for participants. Stop by and support two great causes.
