A primary care physician is like an extended member of the family. He or she cares for a family’s medical needs and serves as someone to turn to when making important healthcare decisions. For Christy Green, Sanford Clinic Family Medicine truly offers medical care for the entire Green family. Elizabeth Jensen, DO with Sanford Clinic Family Medicine 4th & Sycamore has treated many generations of patients in the Green family with ages ranging as young as five-month-old Coltin to Christy’s 97-year-old mother-in-law, Ethyl. Christy, her daughter, Heather, and Coltin’s mom, Brittany, also see Dr. Jensen at the clinic.
Despite the varying ages of patients within her family, Christy said Dr. Jensen is always able to treat whatever medical issues arise and cares for her family both on individual and family levels.
“She’s able to provide care for every age and for every season of life,” Green said. “She’s very easy to talk to and is interested in us as individual people.”
Dr. Jensen enjoys working in family medicine because she’s able to form those long-term relationships with her patients, especially when they come from one family.
“Caring for multiple family members allows me to be far more complete in my history taking and be more thorough in my care of all family members,” Jensen said.
While caring for one or two patients who are within one family is common in the family medicine specialty, Dr. Jensen said caring for this many generations is unique.
“I trust Dr. Jensen completely, not only with my own health, but also with the rest of my family. She just cares so much about each and every one of us,” Green said. “I’m very pleased that Sanford is able to have a physician of such quality in the clinic. I think as a community, we can feel very blessed that we have wonderful physicians throughout the area to care for us.”
