Sanford Health patients and physicians are taking full advantage of the electronic prescription element of docZ. Across the system, Sanford providers routinely submit more than 9,000 e-prescriptions per week and nearly 40,000 per month, elevating Sanford into one of the top two health organizations using the service.
“Surescripts operates the country’s largest electronic prescribing network, and they tell us that Sanford physicians have the second highest number of e-prescriptions per prescriber in the country,” stated Dan Heinemann, MD, Chief Medical Officer for Sanford Health. “Everyone wins with e-prescribing, but the instantaneous interaction between physicians and pharmacists benefits our patients most of all because of the decreased likelihood of prescription error.”
The e-prescribing system allows doctors to issue prescriptions to a computer at the pharmacy of a patient’s choice, eliminating the need to fax or send handwritten prescriptions. Currently, 175 Sanford Clinic providers are using e-prescribing with more to be added before the end of the year.p>
