MeritCare Recognized for Community Benefit Excellence

MeritCare has received the 2009 VHA Leadership Award for Community Benefit Excellence, specifically for the Faithfully Fit Forever Program. This award, which is presented to only five medical centers nationwide, recognizes MeritCare's efforts in providing services and treatment, and promoting health and healing in response to community health needs. In 2008, MeritCare invested over 61 million dollars in community benefit programs, such as Community Care, medical and community education, research, parish nursing, our partnership with the Family HealthCare Center, Adopt-A-School and the Living Well Workshop.

Roger Gilbertson, MD, CEO and President, will accept the award at the VHA Upper Mid-West executive meeting on Monday, June 29, in Minneapolis.

VHA, Inc. is a national health care alliance that serves more than 1,400 not-for-profit hospitals nationwide. MeritCare Health System is a shareholder in VHA, being one of the first 20 hospitals to join the alliance. VHA honors hospitals with leadership awards in three categories: clinical excellence, community benefit excellence and supply chain management.
