(Sioux Falls, SD) – A castle of care awaits visitors when Sanford Children’s Hospital holds public tours Saturday, February 21 from 1-4p.m. Free, public tours of the castle-like structure will provide a glimpse of the child-centered, castle theme that is incorporated throughout the hospital.
The 146-bed children’s hospital located in Sioux Falls, SD provides a state-of-the-art environment tailored to children and designed to promote healing. From color schemes to artwork and physical structure, the entire building has been scientifically designed to promote healing in children and improve outcomes.

Artwork from local artists adorns the walls and ceilings, complete with treasure boxes positioned “at child height” located in the hallways. This unique art collection includes:
• Nearly 4,000 square feet of wall murals
• 150 original paintings and illustrations
• 40 treasure boxes
• Custom made tapestries, wood carvings, wooden thrones, stained glass and more
• 100 pieces of artwork made by children
• 601 ceiling tiles painted by children
Each floor in the new Sanford Children’s Hospital has a theme integrated throughout the entire floor, from hallways to patient rooms:

Family Centered Care
Designed with families in mind, every patient room has a sleeping area for parents and curtain for privacy. Each floor also has a Family Welcome Center complete with a kitchenette, computer stations with internet access, laundry facilities and showers.
Sanford Children’s Specialty Clinic
Sanford Children’s Specialty Clinic will be located on the ground floor of Sanford Children’s Hospital, providing more than 40 pediatric subspecialists in more than 20 disciplines. This clinic contains 38 exam rooms with a dedicated hematology/oncology area for pediatric cancer patients.
