This week, MeritCare is announcing where providers from its Island Park family medicine clinic (600 4 St. S., Fargo) will be relocating. Friday, Jan. 30, 2009, will be the clinic's last day of operation. Patients will still be able to receive care from their same provider, but at a different MeritCare family medicine location.

Starting on Monday, Feb. 2, 2009: Dr. Amie Haugo, will see patients at MeritCare Moorhead (1301 8 St. S.); nurse practitioner Shelby Kary at MeritCare North Fargo (2601 Broadway N.) and Drs. Gary Kennedy, Susan Nelson and Ron Wiisanen, and Tina Lundeen, nurse practitioner, at MeritCare Southpointe (2400 32 Ave. S., Fargo). Dr. Ron Wiisanen, executive partner of family medicine services says, "We have a wonderful group of patients that we serve at MeritCare Island Park. They've been very understanding about this change and have said that they're very pleased that they'll be able to be seen by their same doctor."

Last month, MeritCare announced that sometime next year, it would close its MeritCare Island Park family medicine clinic and consolidate services to its other four family medicine clinics in Fargo, Moorhead and West Fargo. The decision to consolidate family medicine services came as a result of a recent study that found MeritCare had a lot of space available in its current facilities that isn't being used to its full potential. The information prompted the organization to look at where the demand exists for family medicine services and where patients would best be served.
