(Monarch Beach, CA, September 19, 2008) – Sanford Health today announced that it has been listed on the 2008 InformationWeek 500 for its numerous information technology (IT) initiatives. The 2008 InformationWeek 500 companies were revealed on September 15, 2008 at a gala awards ceremony held during the InformationWeek 500 Conference at the St. Regis Resort in Monarch Beach, California. For two decades, InformationWeek has identified and honored the nation's most innovative users of information technology with its annual listing. Sanford Health is the only healthcare system in the region to make the list.
“This honor is a wonderful recognition of all of our IT efforts. Sanford Health leads the way in implementing various information technology initiatives, including our electronic health record (EHR) called docZ, “said Arlyn Broekhuis, Sanford Health Chief Information Officer. “Through our relationship with Epic, an electronic healthcare software company based in Madison, WI, we have been able to implement an EHR in 22 primary care clinics. Today, we have 120 physicians practicing in a paperless environment which means a more seamless and safer experience for our patients.”
Sanford Health is also in the process of implementing docZ in 13 hospitals around the region. Systemwide, more than 900,000 patients are now in the docZ system. In addition to docZ, Sanford Health recently implemented other IT initiatives including a campus-wide Cisco wireless network, state-of-the art Cisco local area network, implementation of biometrics, completely load balanced and redundant internet connections and virtualized storage using IBM SAN Volume Controller technology.
“For 20 years, the InformationWeek 500 has honored the most innovative users of business technology,” said InformationWeek Editor-in-Chief Rob Preston. “Year after year, InformationWeek 500 companies harness technology to improve efficiency, boost productivity, and establish a competitive advantage. We applaud this year’s winners, and the CIOs and other executives whose ingenuity and risk taking are at the center of business technology innovation.”
Now in its 20th year, Information Week tracks the technology, strategies, investments and administrative practices of America’s best-known companies. The list is unique among corporate rankings because it spotlights the power of innovation in information technology, rather than simply identifying the biggest IT spenders.
