Last Field Day as Roosevelt Roughriders to be Bitter Sweet

Tomorrow, Wednesday, May 28, from 12:45-2:45 p.m., MeritCare is partnering with its Adopt-A-School, Roosevelt Elementary School in Fargo, for Field Day. During this annual end-of-the-year celebration, MeritCare employees help organize and coach different activities including tug-of-war contests, gunny sack relays and water brigades. The event will take place in the field west of Roosevelt, 1026 10th St. N. In case of rain, the event will be held in the Roosevelt gymnasium. This is the last year for Field Day for Roosevelt Elementary as a single school, as next year the school will merge with Horace Mann Elementary to make Horace Mann Roosevelt School.

"MeritCare is looking forward to its partnership next year with the newly combined Horace Mann Roosevelt School," said Susie Munyer, MeritCare community youth coordinator. "It's been a wonderful partnership and we are excited to continue to support these students, and more, next year at both school buildings."

In 1999, MeritCare became the first corporation in Fargo-Moorhead to adopt a school. Since that time, nearly all of the schools in the Fargo Public School District have been adopted by business partners through the efforts of the Fargo Public School Development Foundation. The decision to adopt Roosevelt was based on America's Promise. It encourages MeritCare employees to become directly involved with their community and give back in a very important and tangible way - by volunteering their time and talents to help kids stay healthy. Current partnership activities include mentoring, classroom reading, safety and wellness education, career exploration and summer art enrichment. The program is coordinated by MeritCare's Community Connections department.
