Classes for new parents:
  • Car Seat 101 - This class will instruct parents and caregivers how to install and maintain car seats for newborns. Classes are being held Thursday, Jan. 10, from 7-8 p.m. or Tuesday, Jan. 22, from 7-8 p.m., at MeritCare Clinic, 801 Broadway N., in the auditorium. The class is free to parents planning on having their baby at MeritCare Family Birth Center. Pre-registration is required.
  • Your Labor Experience: What to Expect - MeritCare surveyed new parents about what they wanted to know and is now offering a two-hour class that answers the frequently-asked questions about pregnancy and labor. This class is being offered Monday, Jan. 14, from 7-9 pm. or Thursday, Jan. 24, from 7-9 p.m. at MeritCare Clinic, 801 Broadway N., in the auditorium. The class is free to parents planning on having their baby at MeritCare Family Birth Center. Pre-registration is required.


Training/education sessions:
  • CPR for Family and Friends - CPR for adults, infants and children. This course will establish the general principles of CPR; it is not a certified course. Classes are being held Tuesday, Jan. 8, from 6-9 p.m. or Saturday, Jan. 26, from 9 a.m.-noon. The classes will be held at MeritCare South University, West Complex B, 1711 University Dr. S. This course is free, however pre-registration is required.
  • Heartsaver CPR for Day-care Providers - This course is geared specifically for those who want to learn infant and child CPR. This is a certification course. A class is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 17, from 6-9 p.m., at MeritCare South University, West Complex B, 1711 University Dr. S., classroom 3-1. This course is free, however pre-registration is required.


Support groups:
  • Chronic Pain Support Group - A support group for people with chronic pain will be held Monday, Jan. 7, at 7 p.m. at MeritCare South University, 1720 University Dr. S., room 1A-1. This support group is free and open to the public.
  • Disabilities Support Group - If a physical or mental disability has had a major impact on your life and you need some support on your journey, come and explore how this support group might lighten your load. Meetings are held from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. on Mondays; January 14 and 28 at Hope Lutheran Church, 2900 Broadway. For more information, please call (701) 234-6022. This support group is free and open to the public.
  • Gastric Bypass Support Group - Support group for those who have had, or are considering, gastric bypass surgery. A meeting will be held Wednesday, Jan. 30, from 6:30-8 p.m. at MeritCare Clinic, 801 Broadway N., in the auditorium. This support group is free and open to the public.
  • Heart Success - Are you one of the nearly 5 million Americans living with heart failure? This class is a support group for patients living with heart failure. It covers topics such as nutrition, exercise, depression and sleep. The next meeting is Wednesday, Jan. 16, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at MeritCare Clinic, 801 Broadway N., in the auditorium. Registration is encouraged.
  • Transplant Support Group - A kidney transplant support group will meet Tuesday, Jan. 8, at 4:30 p.m. at MeritCare Broadway Health Center, 736 Broadway, in the first floor patient education room. This support group is free and open to the public.


Other programs/classes:
  • Active Older Adult Class - Fitness, facts and fun are offered in this one-hour class designed for anyone 62 years of age or older. Class is held every Tuesday and Thursday from 9-10 a.m. at MeritCare Southpointe, 2700 32nd Ave. S. Pre-registration is required.
  • Children's Surgery Guide - Children, ages 3-9, and their families will learn what they might see, hear, feel, smell or experience when they have surgery at MeritCare. Classes are held 7-8 p.m. and are available every Monday in January. The class is held at MeritCare South University, 1720 S. University Dr. Class is free for children having surgery at MeritCare, but pre-registration is required.
  • Diabetes Exercise Program - An exercise and education program for patients with diabetes. The class runs for eight weeks, meeting twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30-10 a.m. at MeritCare Southpointe, 2400 32nd Ave. S.   • Hearts Plus - An ongoing exercise and education program for heart patients or those at risk for heart disease. The MeritCare Broadway Health Center, 736 Broadway, is open for supervised exercise on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30 a.m.-6 p.m., and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. (closed noon-1 p.m.), and Fridays 6:30 a.m.-5 p.m. MeritCare Southpointe, 2400 32nd Ave. S., is available Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 a.m.-noon. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday, there are group exercise classes from 8:30 a.m.-9:30 a.m. and 10:30-11:30 a.m. For more information, or to register for this class, call (701) 234-5659.
  • Water Hearts - This program involves therapeutic pool exercises that are uniquely designed for Hearts Plus, an ongoing exercise and education program, patients with arthritis or orthopedic concerns. Classes are held Mondays and Fridays at 3-4 p.m. and Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9-10 a.m. at MeritCare Broadway Health Center, 736 Broadway.
