Watertown country artist Greg Hanson
(Watertown, SD) Touched by the help his daughter received at Sanford Childrens and from Childrens Miracle Network, Watertown country artist Greg Hanson undertook a unique fundraiser. Over the past year, Hanson collected autographs on an acoustic guitar with the idea of selling the guitar and donating the money to Childrens Miracle Network.
Hanson took the guitar with him when opening for other bands and attending concerts. He collected signatures of more than ten country music stars including Big and Rich, Sugarland and Diamond Rio. Hanson says they signed without hesitation. The guitar was sold on ebay for $460 in November, and all the proceeds from the sale went directly to Childrens Miracle Network (CMN).
My wife and I have always supported CMN, but its when our daughter actually used their services that I realized just how much they do for sick kids, Hanson said. Two years ago Hansons daughter used Sanford Childrens and CMN after developing breathing problems shortly after birth. Today, shes a happy, healthy two-year-old.
After opening for Carrie Underwood at the Sioux Empire Fair last summer, Hanson came up with the idea to collect the autographs for CMN.
I just wanted to be able to do more, after they did so much for our family, Hanson said.
