Sanford First in South Dakota to Debut this Vascular Technology
Sanford USD Medical Center is proud to announce the opening of its Endovascular Suite. The new suite located within the Sanford Surgical Tower is a sophisticated interventional room that allows physicians to do diagnostic testing as well as surgical procedures.
Endovascular surgery is the most effective treatment option for many patients with vascular disorders. An Endovascular Suite has all of the equipment in a typical catheterization lab as well as the equipment of an operating room. This allows diagnostic studies and procedures to take place in the same room, at the same table, without having to move the patient. Sanford USD Medical Center is the first in South Dakota to debut this vascular technology."The suite enables us to do open procedures as well as minimally invasive procedures in the same place," says Greg Schultz, MD with Sanford Clinic Vascular Associates. "It is especially helpful in emergency situations when diagnosis and surgery must be done very quickly. Minimally invasive treatments have replaced many major operations, are safer for patients and allow for a much quicker recovery."
Prior to the Endovascular Suite, vascular surgeons used traditional operating suites and portable x-ray equipment to perform endovascular procedures, such as stent grafts to treat aortic aneurysms and to clear blocked carotid arteries. When appropriate, endovascular surgery is far less invasive. Sanford Clinic Vascular Associates has three physicians who provide diagnosis, treatment and management of vascular disorders.
