Dr. Kirkwood is director of the melanoma center at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute. He is internationally known for his research in the development of melanoma therapies. Dr. Kirkwood is a member of numerous medical oncology and research societies and has co-authored more than 300 articles.

The number of new cases of melanoma in the United States is on the rise. In 2007, almost 60,000 new cases of melanoma are expected to be diagnosed in America.
