Sioux Valley Health System has unveiled plans for a new building dedicated to women.

Ellis and KaruNew Facility Changes Delivery of Women's Healthcare
Sioux Valley Health System has unveiled plans for a new building dedicated to women. Opening summer 2007, Sioux Valley at The Bridges will offer convenient, state-of-the art primary and specialty care services for women as well as a medical spa. Located at 57th Street and Western Avenue in Sioux Falls, Sioux Valley at The Bridges will include the Women’s Health Plaza and the Vivaz Medical Spa.

Sioux Valley Women’s Health Plaza is a combination of medical and retail healthcare services that will bring the synergy of a one stop location to women’s health care. The care system is based on access, the service experience, the environmental experience, personalized medicine and will include the latest technology in digital mammography. It will bring together high tech, high touch and convenience to fit the busy life of women. Clinical services planned for the Women’s Health Plaza will include, but are not limited to, a second location of the SVC- Breast Health Institute providing screening digital mammography and bone density testing, a second location in Sioux Falls for SVC-OB/GYN, ltd. providing obstetric, gynecology and reproductive medicine services, SVC-Women’s Primary Care Clinic providing primary health care, psychologists providing mental health and counseling services, women’s physical therapy, women’s subspecialty medicine services, personal life-style coaching, wellness and education through the Women's Resource Center. The Women’s Health Plaza concept is lead by Lisa Ellis, MD, a Sioux Valley Clinic internist, with specialized training in women’s health, along with the physicians of OB/GYN, ltd., a leader in women’s health.

"This plaza will be unique in that there is nothing like it in the region," says Lisa Ellis, MD. "It is modeled after other nationally recognized centers of excellence in women’s care. It will have physicians and staff, specially trained in women’s healthcare. We expect this will be an exciting and popular venture that the women in Sioux Falls and the region will thoroughly enjoy and thrive upon."

Vivaz Medical Spa by Sioux Valley will also be located at 57th and Western. Vivaz will be a warm, relaxing place created by the fusion of a tranquil spa environment combined with the medical expertise of specialty physicians. Vivaz means lively and high spirited – which is how someone will feel after experiencing the blend of classic spa and medical spa services. Traditional spa options will include massages, body wraps, facials, microdermabrasion, and permanent make-up provided in a soothing atmosphere. Patients can feel comfortable knowing that medical procedures will be performed only by trained medical experts including physicians in dermatology and plastic surgery. Medical spa procedures will include Botox, soft tissue fillers, chemical peels, dermabrasion, laser hair removal and vein treatment, and medical grade skin care products. Cosmetic surgery consultations will also be provided on site by the region’s first female plastic surgeon, Heather Karu, MD with Sioux Valley Clinic – Plastic Surgery.

"After extensive travel throughout the United States to a variety of spas, I believe that the best all-inclusive patient care comes from medical spas that have dermatologists and plastic surgeons working together with aestheticians," says Dr. Karu. "This relaxing environment provides patients with better results, greater confidentiality, and an experience that people feel very good about."

Construction has started on building. Sioux Valley at The Bridges is expected to open summer 2007.
