Dr Val Farmer Retirement Party

A farewell retirement reception for MeritCare Clinical Psychologist, Dr. Val Farmer and his wife Darlene, will be held Monday, Nov. 6 in the Ramada Crystal Ballroom, Fargo. Dr. Farmer is retiring from his clinical practice at MeritCare and moving to Illinois to be closer to family. He will sign copies of his new book, To Have and To Hold from 6:15-7 p.m.. with a reception to follow.

For many years, the last nine with MeritCare Psychiatric Services, clinical psychologist and newspaper columnist Dr. Val Farmer has helped people from the region deal with various mental health issues and stressors. He's well known for his work with farm families, including a series of farm couple retreats he held in 1999 and 2000 and a book he published, "Honey, I Shrunk the Farm," which focuses on coping skills for farm families facing severe financial problems. In addition, Farmer has a mental health advice column that has appears in agricultural publications across the Midwest for many years.

Dr. Farmer will continue to work as a consultant and mediator to family farm operations, and as a columnist.
