MeritCare Heart Center Hosts Unique Heart Surgical Simulation System on Wheels

Next week, doctors and health-care professionals at MeritCare, as well as the public, will have the opportunity to learn about the newest devices used to care for patients with heart rhythm disorders and heart failure via a 80-foot-long semi-truck traveling education unit parked just outside MeritCare. The Medtronic Therapy and Procedure Training Center is a mobile unit that contains two virtual simulated cardiac catheterization labs. Cardiac cath labs are where procedures such as the implantation of pacemakers take place. The simulator allows staff to practice state-of-the art device (e.g. pacemaker) implant procedures using a system that emulates the look and feel of actual patient cases.
