Psychologist Dr Val Farmer Retiring From Clinical Practice at MeritCare

For many years, the last nine with MeritCare Psychiatric Services, clinical psychologist and newspaper columnist Dr. Val Farmer has helped people from the region deal with various mental health issues and stressors. He's well known for his work with farm families, including a series of farm couple retreats he held in 1999 and 2000 and a book he published, "Honey, I Shrunk the Farm," which focuses on coping skills for farm families facing severe financial problems. In addition, Farmer has a mental health advice column that has appeared in agricultural publications in Midwest for many years.

In mid October, Farmer will be retire from his clinical practice at MeritCare and move to Illinois to be closer to family. He will continue to work as a consultant and mediator to family farm operations, and as a columnist. This summer, Farmer will be publishing two booklets on marriage and parenting.

Farmer's last day of practice at MeritCare will be Oct. 19; appointments can be booked until mid September.
