Park Christian School Honored With 2006 Celebrate Kindness Award
A student-led committee planned an event for each day of Kindness Week and these events connected the students at Park Christian with a variety of different community groups. "Park Connects with the Youth" was the first day's focus and one group of students volunteered at the Great Beginnings Day Care, helping the toddlers and preschoolers with art projects, while other student groups spent time in the Park Christian elementary classrooms reading and creating Valentines for our soldiers overseas. Day two was "Park Connects with the Community" and students assisted the "Meals on Wheels" program by decorating the bags in which the meals were delivered that day. "Park Connects with Seniors" brought students together with residents from the Moorhead Manor for decorating sugar cookies. "Park Connects with the World" was the theme on the fourth day and students assisted in a homeless shelter, sorting through clothing, helping in the food pantry and making lunch for residents.
While the Park Christian students made an extra effort to connect with kindness during Celebrate Kindness Week in February, the lessons they learned have stayed with them. As one student commented, "All in all it was an enjoyable week, but we realize that kindness is something to be carried out throughout the whole year!"
