Northwest Iowa Health Center Breaks Ground on Addition

Continuing their multi-phase restructuring project, Northwest Iowa Health Center will officially kick off the next phase of renovations with a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, May 4.

Continuing their multi-phase restructuring project, Northwest Iowa Health Center (Sheldon, IA) will officially kick off the next phase of renovations with a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, May 4. The current project will include new surgery and recovery areas, new same day surgery areas, a new ambulance entrance and a partially renovated emergency area

"We are excited to be entering into this next phase of our facility restructuring project," said Chip Miller, CEO of Northwest Iowa Health Center. "With the previous enhancements to our labor and delivery areas as well as the many equipment upgrades that have taken place, this is a logical next step that our enhanced relationship with Sioux Valley has created."

The public is invited to attend the groundbreaking program which will begin at 4:30 PM on the NIHC campus on May 4. Following the groundbreaking, burgers, salads, and refreshments will be served. In case of rain, a large tent will be set-up to accommodate the groundbreaking celebration.

In addition to the groundbreaking event, NIHC is also entering into a new relationship with Sioux Valley Regional Health Services (SVRHS). As of May 1, Northwest Iowa Health Center will become an integrated facility of SVRHS, helping to provide NIHC with improved access to services, technology, and capital – all necessary elements that have allowed Phase III of the reconstruction project to move forward.

"I have always been impressed to see the level of commitment that Sioux Valley has shown to Northwest Iowa Health Center," said Terry Braaksma, board chair at NIHC. "The new relationship with Sioux Valley Health System will provide us with the financial backing and expertise required for a project of this magnitude. Having partnered with Sioux Valley for over 15 years, we look forward to continuing to provide the highest quality care to our patients throughout Northwest Iowa."

The $6.9 million project is expected to be completed in October 2007. Poppema-Sikma Construction Co., Inc. out of Sheldon will be the general contractor for the project.
