The new Northwest Iowa Dialysis Center (NIDC) in Hospers, IA will hold a groundbreaking ceremony on November 15, 2005 at 4:00 p.m. in Hospers, IA to officially kickoff the construction of the free-standing dialysis clinic. The event will be held at 112 Sunrise Drive in Hospers.
Sioux Valley Health System in Sioux Falls, SD, Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon, IA and Orange City Area Health System in Orange City, IA have formed a partnership to build the dialysis center in Hospers. Representatives from each of these entities, as well as the Hospers Area Development Corporation, will be on hand for the event. Following the brief on-site ceremony, refreshments will be served at the Hospers Community Building at 211 Main Street.
"We are extremely excited to be entering into the construction phase of this project," said Barry J. Lankhorst, MD, Sioux Valley Clinic Nephrologist, who will serve as the Medical Director of the NIDC. "The facility will be designed to serve the special needs of the dialysis patient and their families."
Regular dialysis treatment is required for those who suffer from kidney failure. Dialysis requires several treatments per week for each patient, thus requiring many trips by the patient, their family and friends. The facility will initially have capacity to serve up to six patients at one time with the capacity to eventually expand and serve eight patients. The NIDC will serve patients in need of kidney dialysis who live in Sheldon, Orange City and the surrounding northwest Iowa area.
"The partnerships that have been established to make this project a reality will help to ensure that quality dialysis care will be provided close to home," said Lankhorst. "We anticipate seeing our first patients by early summer, 2006."
Northwest Iowa Health Center and Orange City Area Health System are partners of the Sioux Valley Health System.
