"We are extremely excited to be entering into the construction phase of this project," said Barry J. Lankhorst, MD, Sioux Valley Clinic Nephrologist, who will serve as the Medical Director of the NIDC. "The facility will be designed to serve the special needs of the dialysis patient and their families."
Regular dialysis treatment is required for those who suffer from kidney failure. Dialysis requires several treatments per week for each patient, thus requiring many trips by the patient, their family and friends. The facility will initially have capacity to serve up to six patients at one time with the capacity to eventually expand and serve eight patients. The NIDC will serve patients in need of kidney dialysis who live in Sheldon,
"The partnerships that have been established to make this project a reality will help to ensure that quality dialysis care will be provided close to home," said Lankhorst. "We anticipate seeing our first patients by early summer, 2006."
