Many esophageal disorders including heartburn and acid reflux can be treated with medications and/or changes in diet and lifestyle. However, if your symptoms persist, Sanford is here to help. More and more Americans are experiencing a serious form of acid reflux, called gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD. GERD can be very painful, chronic and can disrupt daily lives. GERD left untreated can worsen until patients develop Barrett's disease or even esophageal cancer.
Sanford is proud to be one of the first in the Dakotas to offer a new innovative procedure to treat GERD called LINX® Reflux Management System. LINX® is a less invasive procedure in which small flexible band of beads with magnetic cores is secured similar to a loose bracelet around the lower esophagus. The band restores the body's natural barrier and has enough pressure to prevent reflux while allowing food and liquids to pass into the stomach.
