Robotic Surgery

Overview

A breakthrough in surgical technology has added a new category of minimally invasive surgery for which you may be a candidate. It is an effective, minimally invasive alternative to both open surgery and laparoscopy. Through the use of the da Vinci® Surgical System, surgeons are now able to offer a minimally invasive option for complex surgical procedures.

Robotic surgery has many benefits including:

  • A reduction in recovery time
  • A decrease in the number of open surgeries physicians need to perform
  • Provides the surgeon a distinct advantage when performing surgery
  • Incisions no wider than a fingertip
  • A pencil-sized video camera providing magnified, three- dimensional images of the surgical site. The surgeon uses hand controls to guide the system’s three arms equipped with surgical instruments.

An emerging technology for most of the world, robotic-assisted surgery among Sanford Clinic Women’s Health physicians has become fairly routine. With over 1,000 robotic surgeries, these physicians are one of the world’s leaders in gynecologic surgery. When making important healthcare decisions, experience counts.
