The Children’s Oncology Group (COG)
Because childhood cancer is relatively rare, it is important to seek treatment at a specialized cancer program that is familiar in the appropriate treatment of children with cancer. We recognize this at Sanford Childrens. As such, our Pediatric Oncology Program is the only program in the state that is a member of the Childrens Oncology Group (COG). The Childrens Oncology Group (COG) mission is to cure and prevent childhood and adolescent cancer through scientific discovery and compassionate care. In the pediatric treatment arena, Pediatric Oncologist Linda Stout, MD with Sanford Childrens Specialty Clinic enrolled six and registered 11 young patients in clinical treatment trials through many of the 48 Childrens Oncology Group protocols available at Sanford. Through National Cancer Institute-sponsored Children's Oncology Group, the Pediatric Oncology Program at Sanford Childrens Specialty Clinic participates in specially designed and monitored research studies made only available to member programs. These studies help develop cutting-edge treatments and research for long-term childhood cancer survival. Sanford Childrens Pediatric Oncologists Linda Stout, MD and Michael Sprehe, MD, MPH work closely with COG in providing the latest treatment methods to our young patients.
