Infant/Toddler/Preschool; Levels I and I Advanced; Swimming Strength and Stroke

Definitions:

  • Infant (6 months to 18 months)


  • Toddler (19 months to 36 months)


  • Preschool (3 year olds)


  • Levels I and I Advanced (4 years old and older)


  • Swimming Strength and Stroke Class (Levels IV and higher)


    Class Location:
    All classes are located in the Therapy Pool except for the Swimming Strength and Stroke class which is located in the Main Pool.


    Which classes do parents need to be in the water?
    Infant, Toddler and Preschool


    Length and times of sessions:
  • Four week session for 30 minutes


  • Infant and Toddler classes are once a week


  • Preschool, Levels I and I Advanced, and Swimming Strength and Stroke class are all twice a week.



    Red Cross Swimming Lessons - Levels I-VI

    July 14 - August 7, 2008 (Registration is July 7 & 8, 2008)


    Definition:
    Swimming lessons follow the American Red Cross guidelines and are taught by a certified Water Safety Instructor.


    Length and Times of Sessions:

  • All Red Cross Swimming Lessons are twice a week


  • Levels I, I Advanced, Levels II and II Advanced are 30 minutes each


  • Levels III-VI are 40 minutes each



  • Students/Instructor Ratios:

  • Levels I, I Advanced, Levels II and II Advanced have 6 students per class


  • Level III have 8 students per class


  • Levels IV, V and VI have 10 students per class



  • The American Red Cross charges $1.00 per student for processing fees.

    Level VI: Lifeguard Readiness, Personal Water Safety, Fitness Swimmer and Diving
    Endurance Skills and Turns:
    Front and Back Crawl (100 yards), Breaststroke, Elementary Backstroke, Side Stroke, and Butterfly (50 yards)
    New Skills:
    Tread Water, kicking only
    Retrieve object from the bottom
    Survival Floating and swimming
    Self-Rescue
    Basic stretching for diving
    All dives
