Camp Jess Three Girl

A Grief Camp Just for Children

Camp Jess is a one day camp experience for children ages 6 – 14 who have experienced
the death of a parent, sibling, grandparent or close friend.

Why Do Children Have Special Needs?

When a death occurs in a family, confusion, anger, uncertainty, fear, loneliness and guilt
are common feelings that may invade a child’s world. Children often keep their feelings to themselves because they may not want to further burden a grieving parent.

What Camp Jess Offers

Camp Jess offers a unique blend of creative group work including:
• music
• arts and crafts
• recreational activities
• small group discussions
• education on grief process

These activities are designed to promote opportunities to express feelings and learn healthy coping techniques. This is done with other kids who have experienced similar losses. Professional social work staff lead group activities and adult volunteers, many who have also experienced loss, provide individual attention to campers throughout the day. Children are grouped by ages for activities. If transportation is needed please contact us at (605) 328-4440 or 1-888-845-4470.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are needed to serve as one on one buddies for campers. Training is provided. Call (605) 328-4440 or 1-888-845-4470 for more information.
