Heart Score CT

Heart Score CTThe Heart & Vascular Center at Sanford USD Medical Center is proud to offer a revolutionary test for detecting risk for heart attack - Sanford Heart Score CT.

Utilizing the latest in computed tomography scanning technology, Sanford Heart Score CT detects calcium buildup in the coronary arteries surrounding the heart. These calcium deposits are intimately associated with the presence and severity of atherosclerosis, or "hardening" of the arteries, that ultimately leads to heart attacks.

While other screenings for heart disease look only at risk factors or the restriction of coronary blood flow, Sanford  Heart Score CT looks inside the heart to provide an actual score for coronary calcification. Using this figure, physicians can more accurately predict a patient's probability of contracting coronary artery disease and the implications for future cardiovascular risk.

Heart Score CT
Sanford Heart Score CT is one of the quickest and easiest health screenings you will ever experience.

The scan itself lasts no more than ten minutes, and there are no needles or dyes involved. You will be asked to hold your breath a few times while the scanner makes a complete review of your heart. That's all there is to it.

Once the scan is complete and reviewed, you'll be contacted by your physician to discuss the results. Based on your risk, your doctor may recommend further testing, possible treatment, or future consultation with a Heart Partners cardiologist.
