Cardiovascular Health

Cardiovascular Health Research Center is led by Director William Harris, PhD and Associate Director Timothy O’Connell, PhD. The research in the center is quite diverse including basic studies examining cardiac and skeletal muscle development and the alterations that occur in muscular dystrophy; studies examining the mechanisms by which diabetes, thyroid hormone and the sympathetic nervous system affect the pathogenesis of heart failure; and clinical studies examining the role of omega-3 fatty acids and other fatty acid metabolites in cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases.
