In July 2009, Sanford Health acquired the former Hutchinson Technology manufacturing center in Sioux Falls, SD for the purpose of renovating it to house research operations. The building contains unique infrastructure that makes it a great fit for a transition from manufacturing to research.

The building itself is 299,007 square feet. Nearly half of which is class 10,000 clean room space that is equipped with air, water, and gas handling capabilities that will enable Sanford to adapt and expand research labs as our projects and teams grow.

The initial phase of Sanford’s research footprint will be comprised of approximately 28,000 square feet of laboratory space, 9,000 square feet of vivarium, 11,000 square feet of support and 32,000 square feet of research related office space. 

The site itself consists of over 70 acres of land and over 1,500 parking spaces which could accommodate another 200,000 square feet of buildings without any additional spaces. There is just over 47 acres left for future development. The site has outstanding interstate and airport access as well.
