
Joseph A. Zenel Jr., MD of Sanford Children's/USD
(Sioux Falls, SD) Sanford Childrens expands with the hiring of Joseph A. Zenel Jr., MD to serve as Director for the Pediatric Residency Program, Sanford Childrens/USD. Starting in mid-August, Dr. Zenel will also serve as Professor and Chief of the Section of General Pediatrics, Sanford School of Medicine of The University of South Dakota and as Assistant Vice President for Education, Sanford Health. One of Dr. Zenels initial goals is to obtain accreditation for the Pediatric Residency Program, Sanford Childrens/USD from the American Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
Dr. Zenels devotion to education will ensure Sanford Childrens continues to be a leader in childrens healthcare, says H. Eugene Hoyme, MD, Chief Pediatric Medical Officer of Sanford Childrens. Dr. Zenel is a wonderful recruit for us. His many years of pediatric experience, department administration and devotion to education mean Sanford Health will continue to be a leader in pediatrics in the community.
Before joining Sanford Childrens, Dr. Zenel was Professor and Vice Chair of Pediatrics at Oregon Health & Sciences University. He has also served as Acting Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at Oregon. Dr. Zenel is an Associate Editor of Pediatrics in Review, the continuing education journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is also the senior author of a major textbook in the field of general pediatrics: Pediatrics (Osborne, DeWitt, First and Zenel).
