Nation’s Most Wired Hospitals Demonstrate Progress Through Innovation
(Sioux Falls, SD) – Three Sanford facilities: Sanford Aberdeen Medical Center, Sanford USD Medical Center (Sioux Falls) and Sanford Medical Center Fargo have received Most Wired designations this year.
The award list is based on the magazine's Most Wired survey and industry-standard benchmarking study which measure the level of information technology (IT) adoption in U.S. hospitals and health systems and is useful tool for hospital and health system leadership to map their IT strategic plans. Organizations with the highest survey scores were named to the Most Wired list.
“Innovation and technology are critical to ensure our patients receive the best care possible,” said Sanford Health chief information officer Arlyn Broekhuis. “Sanford continues to show tremendous progress through our organization’s innovation and dedication to IT infrastructure, development and adaptation.”
Sanford Health has installed its electronic medical records (EMR) system in 30 of its hospitals. In addition, more than 1000 physicians use the EMR in Sanford Clinics. In the next twelve months, Sanford Health will add five more hospitals, 200 more physicians and the Sanford Health Plan to its EMR. Future plans also call for including Home Health on the same EMR.
This year marks the 15th anniversary of Health Care’s Most Wired Survey. In that time, hospitals and health care systems have made great strides in establishing the basic building blocks for creating robust clinical information systems aimed at improving patient care. This includes adopting technologies to improve patient documentation, advance clinical decision support and evidence-based protocols, reduce the likelihood of medication errors, and rapidly restore access to data in the case of a disaster or outage.
Health Care’s Most Wired Surveys, conducted between Jan. 15 and March 15, asked hospitals and health systems nationwide to answer questions regarding their IT initiatives. More than 659 health care systems representing 1,713 hospitals throughout the United States, which is roughly 30 percent of all U.S. hospitals, responded to the survey.
