Nurse Robin: I am Proud to be a Nurse

Last January I was rounding and I passed a patient who ended up stopping me in the hallway. He asked me my name and then he started crying. I had taken care of this patient 4 years prior and him and his wife had been trying to run into me every since. With tears in their eyes him and his wife went on saying that I saved his life in 2007. He remembers nearly dying and how I was by the head of his bed encouraging him to breathe and that help was on the way. With his face filled with joy and excitement, he told about each of his 3 beautiful grandchild. He truly believes that if it wasn't for me and my colleagues and our quick action that he would have never have met any of them. Needless to say we cried, hugged, and talked for more than 0 minutes. I will never forget how thankful he was and how much appreciation he had for all of us. This Christmas I received a Christmas card and I saw his beautiful kids and grand kids. I will cherish his letter and I thank God every day for the gift he has given me. At times, when life is in full swing and the days seem crazy busy we forget, or maybe don't even realize, who we impact. That one day last January when I ran into Dan and Darcy in the hallway was an eye opening experience and made me step back and apprecite what all of us do daily as a team to take care of our patients and families. I am proud to be a nurse.
