Nurse Wendy: I am Proud to be a Nurse

I LOVE being a nurse. At times I may grumble about crazy 12-13 hour shifts that have no time for a break but when I hold a person’s hand that is dying and I cry with their family, I know I have made a difference in their lives.

When I take care of a patient and they tell me they love my smile and it’s contagious, I know I have made a difference in their lives.

When I give pain medicine to a patient in extreme pain and their pain is taken away, I know I have made a difference in their lives.

When I administer an antibiotic to take away an infection that is plaguing a patient, I know I am making a difference in their lives.

When I help deliver a baby and unite mother and baby, I know I have made a difference in their lives.

When I perform an intervention on my patient that saves their life, I know I have made a difference in their lives.

When I care for a patient that spends a long recovery with us because they can’t care for themselves and then they can walk out of the hospital independently with a smile on their face, I know I have made a difference in their lives.

Every patient I touch, no matter how small or big of a difference I make in their lives, I know God has given me the gift of his touch to help my patients. I thank God for this gift and the gift of a healthy family to encourage and support me in my path as a nurse.
