The "funny bone" is a nerve (ulnar nerve) that runs down the back of the elbow. When the highly sensitive ulnar nerve is bumped, a person feels pain and a tingly, prickly feeling.
Although intense, the pain and tingling are brief, normal sensations and generally will go away on their own.
