Paclitaxel Reduces Effects of Intimal Hyperplasia Status Post Lower Extremity Revascularization


The purpose of this study is to determine if the drug called Paclitaxel will help to reduce the chances of plaque building back up in a patient¿s leg arteries after having had treatment. Paclitaxel is a drug that is used to treat certain kinds of cancer. Paclitaxel works by stopping fast dividing cells causing these cells to die. This study is to find out if Paclitaxel will stop intimal hyperplasia (a cell dividing process that causes your artery to build up plaque again after treatment) in the lower extremities after standard of care revascularization: angioplasty (inflation of a balloon compacting it against the artery wall), and/or stenting (a wire mesh tube that presses the plaque against the artery wall and opens the artery) and/or atherectomy (removal of plaque from the artery).
