Title:

Targeting ACE2/Angiotension-(1-7)/Mas axis to enhance vasoreparative function of endothelial progenitor cells in diabetes

Description:

Diabetes is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease, including high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, vision problems and nerve related conditions, like peripheral neuropathy. In all of these medical conditions, one major contributing factor is damage to the inner lining of the blood vessels. Endothelial progenitor cells (Stem Cells) are cells coming from the bone marrow and are known to repair damaged inner lining of the blood vessels. Therefore, these cells are thought to help in the healing process. Diabetes slows down the healing potential of the Stem Cells. The goal of this study is to find out new ways to restore cell function in diabetic patients. To complete this research, diabetic individuals are needed to donate up to 100mls of blood.
