CLASS TOPICS DESCRIPTION
Responsive Parenting A 6 week class for parents with children ages birth to three years old.  Parents will learn about topics such as social-emotional growth, early brain development, temperament, and guidance.  The six-week series includes: The Parent-Child Dance, Your Unique Child, Responding to Your Child’s Needs, What and How Your Child Learns, Parenting is Stressful: So is Growing Up, and Encouraging Your Child.
Bedtime Battles Helping children develop good sleep habits can be achieved using gentle, responsive methods.  By exploring some of the potential roadblocks and working with children's individual "clocks," parents can learn to implement a personalized plan that works best for their family.

Calming the Frenzied Family Do you ever feel overwhelmed by your lengthy to-do list?  Do your children show signs of stress due to hectic school or activity schedules?  If so, this is the class for you!  Ideas for organizing your home and family schedules to reduce stress and chaos will be shared.

Challenging Child Behaviors Have you ever wondered what may be behind those behaviors that most challenge you as a parent?  Do you ever feel like you've just figured your child out and then they become someone completely different?  This class will look at some "triggers" to challenging behaviors and how we can prevent, reduce or calm them.

Baby Signs  Studies have shown that hearing infants who learn sign language talk sooner and have larger vocabularies, stronger parent/child bonds, and less frustration, crying and tantrums.  Signing can also increase baby's self-esteem and gives parents a window into their child's early temperament.

Healthy Kids = Healthy Adults This class will focus on the childhood obesity epidemic, the causes of obesity, and what parents can do to prevent it.  We will also focus on the importance of a physically active lifestyle in children. Part of the Sioux Falls Growing Healthy Initiative Parent Classes.
Learning and Movement Go Together The class will discuss the relationship between movement and learning from a child’s perspective.  Also,
parents will understand the positive relationship between movement and learning when promoting and engaging in activities with their children. Part of the Sioux Falls Growing Healthy Initiative Parent Classes.
Turn Off the Screen This class will focus on the relationship between increased screen time (television, DVD`s, computer games, video games) and unhealthy lifestyle in children.  Parents will also gain an understanding of the effects of screen time and marketer influence in relationship to the increase of childhood obesity. Part of the Sioux Falls Growing Healthy Initiative Parent Classes.
Healthy Food Choices Matter This class will discuss the importance of parents promoting healthy food choices for their children.  We will also give parents tools and ideas on how they can promote healthy food choices for their family. Part of the Sioux Falls Growing Healthy Initiative Parent Classes.
