
What to bring:
- Name and telephone number of your referring physician
- Insurance card(s)
- Proof of legal guardianship or parent authorization, if you are not the parent
- Social Security numbers, both for you and your child
- Referrals or authorizations from your child's primary care doctor (if applicable)
- Medical records, such as X-rays or lab tests (if applicable)
- A list of your child's medications
- A stuffed animal, blanket or comfort item for your child
- Your child’s favorite book, toy, activity, etc.
- Parent/Guardians personal care items and changes of clothing
Registration/Check-in:
- Directions to Sanford Children’s Hospital
- Parking is free and available in the parking lot in front of Sanford Children's Hospital. Entrance to this lot is from 22nd Street, between Grange Avenue and West Avenue.
- Registration: A Greeter at the Information desk just inside the Carlson Great Hall will welcome you and give you directions to the Registration area.
- Sanford Children’s Hospital is a secure unit for the safety of our patients. Parents will receive a visitor sticker and security access card. The security officer will ask about your wishes regarding your child’s visitors. The security officer will teach you how to use your access badge.
- Sanford Children’s staff will accompany you and your child to the Sanford Children’s Pediatric Unit or Miller Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. For privacy and comfort, admission will take place after you and your child are in your room.
- A registered nurse will complete admission paperwork, along with a computer questionnaire about your child and family. A registered nurse will then examine your child and discuss the physician orders and plan of care with you.
- You will be oriented to your child’s room and given a tour of the area by your child’s room.
Designated Space for Families:
Focused on providing family-centered care, each patient room provides a sleeping area and privacy curtain for parents. Parents/guardians are welcome to visit their child 24 hours per day.
Every floor has a Family Center, complete with a kitchenette, computers with internet access, vending machines, laundry facilities, and showers. A continental breakfast is available for families every morning from 8-10 a.m. Meals for visitors may also be ordered from Dakota Dining; this information is located on your child’s menu.
Dakota Food Court is available in the lower level of the Sanford Surgical Tower. Entrance to the Surgical Tower is via the Royal Footbridge located off the Carlson Great Hall in Sanford Children’s Hospital.
Visitor’s Policy:
Parents/guardians are welcome to visit their child 24 hours/day. Sanford Children’s Hospital has secured access at all times. Please inform all visitors that they will be required to provide photo identification at the Security Desk located outside the Pediatric Unit prior to visiting.
The Sanford Children’s Team:
Your child will be cared for by a team of people from many different professions. All members of the team will wear identification badges. Your child’s team may include: Physician, Resident, Medical student, Case Manager, Registered Nurse, Nursing student, Patient Care Assistant, Child Life Specialist, Social Worker, Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Speech Therapist, Respiratory Therapist, Music Therapist, Dietician, Pharmacist, Chaplain, Teacher, and Volunteer. |
