Sanford Children's Hospital

The future of Sanford Children’s is packed with excitement with the building of the region’s first dedicated children’s hospital. As the first building phase of the new Sanford Children’s Hospital, the Boekelheide Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) opened on June 20, 2006. Ground breaking on phase two of the project will be in 2007 with anticipated completion in 2009. Thanks to T. Denny Sanford, the dream of having a dedicated children’s hospital is becoming a reality.

Patients ranging in age from birth to young adult are also cared for in our Pediatric Unit or Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). The social and emotional needs our pediatric patients and their siblings are addressed by a dedicated team of certified Child Life Specialists. A team of over 300 specially trained pediatric staff care for the thousands of children that come through our doors each year.
