Family Stories
Randy, Ashley & Seth
Were so happy with Sanford Childrens that we dont want to go anywhere else. That is how Randy, Ashley and Seth's mom, Carrie, responded when asked about Sanford Children's. Just two years after her brother Randy was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes, Ashley received the same diagnosis. Most recently, 16 year old brother Seth was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes in December, 2007. Sharing this diagnosis with their dad, Ashley, Randy and Seth brought the total to four out of six members in their family who battle Type I Diabetes on a daily basis. When learning of Seths diagnosis, Carrie commented "…there was no question, no other place we would have taken him than Sanford Children's." Carrie praises the team a Sanford Children's for the comprehensive care her children have received in managing their disease, from the advice they have received from diabetic educators to the assistance their family has received from social workers. She stated "It is so comforting to know that when I call, even after hours, everyone is ready to help us in any way they can. Sanford Children's has been such a great support system for us, and we couldn't ask for better care. Thank God they are there to help us." In return for her gratitude, Carrie, a practicing RN, volunteers her time as a nurse at Camp Gilbert, a camp sponsored by Sanford Childrens for school age children with Diabetes which Ashley and Randy attend annually. The three siblings' parents also commented that the team at Sanford Children's has been very sensitive to their commute for appointments. Both referred to Sanford Childrens Specialty Clinic by their primary care physicians in the region, the family lives approximately 60 miles from Sioux Falls. The specialists at Sanford Children's continue to work with Ashley, Randy, and Seths primary care physicians in the region to provide the care they need, close to home. |
