Growing Healthy

Sanford Children’s Growing Healthy program partners with the Sioux Falls Growing Healthy Initiative’s mission is to mobilize the community to assure the health and wellness of the children of the Sioux Falls Area. To implement this strategy the Growing Healthy Initiative seeks to embed services and resources, designed to truly change the culture and actions of community citizens to promote healthy, active lifestyles.

Sanford Children’s C.H.I.L.D. Services, with support for Growing Healthy and Kohl’s Care’s for Kids, has developed a curriculum for child care providers and a curriculum for parents. Each curriculum is a series of 4 classes that help educate providers and parents on the importance of promoting movement and healthy eating habits with children.

Program Goals:

  • Childcare providers will become knowledgeable in promoting a healthy lifestyle for the children in their care.
  • Parents will become knowledgeable in promoting a healthy lifestyle for their children.

Objectives:

  • Increase awareness of the importance of a physically active life style for children.
  • Increase understanding of the importance of a physically active life style for children.
  • Increase ability to provide children opportunities for a physically active life style.
  • Increase awareness of the importance of healthy food choices for children.
  • Increase understanding of making and promoting healthy food choices for children.
  • Increase ability to provide children healthy food choices.
  • Increase awareness of community resources to assist in providing children opportunities for a healthy lifestyle.

Growing Healthy Incentive Program for Families

The Growing Healthy Incentive Program for Families is a community sponsored program that offers families and child care providers opportunities to participant in healthy lifestyle programs that will encourage a healthy lifestyle for children. There is no cost to enroll or participate in this program.

Through this program, you will earn points for participating in programs, events and activities that can be redeemed for Growing Healthy Prizes. These Growing Healthy programs, events, and activities will be offered by Growing Healthy Program partners throughout the community for easy access.
You choose your Growing Healthy prize once you have reached the qualifying point level.
You can earn points for your family or you can donate your points to your child care facility if your child care program is enrolled in the Growing Healthy Incentive Program for Child Care Providers.
