Growing Healthy
Sanford Children’s Growing Healthy program partners with the Sioux Falls Growing Healthy Initiative’s mission is to mobilize the community to assure the health and wellness of the children of the Sioux Falls Area. To implement this strategy the Growing Healthy Initiative seeks to embed services and resources, designed to truly change the culture and actions of community citizens to promote healthy, active lifestyles. This SectionGrowing Healthy Parenting Classes
The “Healthy Kids Parent Curriculum” is a series of 4 classes that help educate parents on the importance of promoting movement and healthy food choices with their children. Each class will give parents information and tools to help promote a healthy lifestyle with their children. Each class also consists of free posters, games, and activities.
There is no charge for these classes.

Class Descriptions:
Healthy Kids = Healthy Adults: This class will focus on the childhood obesity epidemic, the causes of obesity, and what parents can do to prevent it. We will also focus on the importance of a physically active lifestyle in children
Learning and Movement Go Together: The class will discuss the relationship between movement and learning from a child’s perspective. Also, parents will understand the positive relationship between movement and learning when promoting and engaging in activities with their children.
Turn Off the Screen: This class will focus on the relationship between increased screen time (television, DVD`s, computer games, video games) and unhealthy lifestyle in children. Parents will also gain an understanding of the effects of screen time and marketer influence in relationship to the increase of childhood obesity.
Healthy Food Choices Matter: This class will discuss the importance of parents promoting healthy food choices for their children. We will also give parents tools and ideas on how they can promote healthy food choices for their family.
