What is the CACFP?The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) is a federal program of the Food and Nutrition Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) that provides healthy meals and snacks to children and adults receiving day care. The primary goal of the Child and Adult Care Food Program:To ensure that well-balanced, nutritious meals are served to children and to help children learn to eat a wide variety of foods as part of a balanced diet. The program serves children under the age of 13 years and migrant workers children as well as people with disabilities under certain conditions. Each day more than 2.6 million children participate in CACFP. Through CACFP, participants nutritional needs are supported on a daily basis. CACFP facilities follow the meal patterns established by USDA. By participating on the CACFP, child care providers receive cash reimbursement for serving nutritious meals.
