Current volunteer opportunities for the Sioux Falls region
Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Sanford Health. Below is a list of current volunteer opportunities at Sanford Health in the Sioux Falls region.
Would you like to get a feel for what it's like to work in a medical setting? If so, being a G.I. Aide would be great experience. Volunteers in this area assist in discharging patients, cleaning carts, replacing linens and help support staff.
Gift Shop volunteers provide “retail therapy” by touching the lives of patients, families and staff that come into the gift shop. Volunteers will assist gift shop staff in maintaining outstanding customer service by generating sales, merchandising, ringing transactions, taking phone orders and delivering flowers or gifts to patients’ rooms. Gift shop profits are used to support scholarships, patient care, programs and medical equipment here at Sanford USD Medical Center and Sanford Children’s Hospital.
Do you enjoy fixing hair? Then this volunteer opportunity is for you. Sanford Hair Care volunteers wash, set and curl patient's hair in the Inpatient Rehabilitation unit.
Volunteers are a friendly welcoming face to the many patients and visitors who enter Medical Building II. They provide information to customers, direct and escort patients, families and visitors to the appropriate area.
The Sioux Empire Medical Museum is the only medical museum in the region and is open to the public. The museum is located on the Medical Center Campus and volunteers answer questions and provide information to visitors. If you like history you will be a perfect fit for the volunteer opportunity.
Sometimes, patients do not have family or caregivers present due to absence or distance. Volunteers from No One Dies Alone provide companionship to patients who would like someone with them at the end of life. They also provide a presence to families who may need extra support during the final hours of a loved one’s life.
Sanford has four outpatient therapy areas. Volunteers in these areas assist therapists in patient treatment. This may include, but is not limited to escorting patients, cleaning equipment, stocking items/equipment, and light clerical duties.
This volunteer opportunity is perfect for people considering a career path in the medical or nursing field. The purpose is to provide a caring presence to older adult patients by visiting/reminiscing with patients, assisting with diversional but meaningful activities such as reading, crossword puzzles and games, offering snacks or beverages, or gentle hand massage.
This is an excellent opportunity for volunteers interested in Pediatrics or Child Life. Volunteers will assist Pediatric Staff in playing and monitoring pediatric patients, washing toys, reading to patients, and rocking children. Volunteers will also provide supervision during free play time and occasional assistance with planned playroom activities. Volunteers may also assist in admissions and discharging patients.
This volunteer position would be ideal for the individual interested in a career in speech or occupational therapy. Pediatric Therapy volunteers will assist staff in escorting patients between providers, interacting with siblings of patients, washing toys and cleaning the feeding therapy room between patients.
