The Sanford USD Medical Center Campus covers a 6X4 block area. Many customers need assistance in finding a physicians office, patient room, outpatient testing area, cafeteria and many other areas. The Way Finding Volunteer opportunity was created to help our customers get to the area in which they are looking for. We are looking for individuals who are outgoing, friendly and can be on their feet for 4 hours and walk 2 to 6 miles during that 4 hour period.
Waiting Room Host/Hostess are a liaison between the nursing unit and patient family/friends. Volunteers answer the phone, transfer calls or take message for family and friends of patients. Your responsibilities will include directing or escorting families or friends to different areas in the hospital or just visiting with the patients visitors while they wait.
Do you have a friendly smile? Volunteers in the Van Demark Building welcome patients, provide information and directions to patients and families. Occassionally volunteers will need to push patients in a wheelchair to their destination.
Do you want to make a difference and get some exercise at the same time? Volunteer escorts in the VanDemark Building welcome patients to Sanford and help alleviate the anxiety that sometimes accompanies waiting and take patients to their destination.
The Center for Successful Aging is seeking a receptionist volunteer to provide clerical and telephone assistance as well as non-medical information, support and comfort to patients.
If you like clerical work, this postion is for you! Sanford's Printing and Graphic department is located at the Stevens Center and provide all of the printing materials for Sanford. Volunteers assist in processing bulk and regular print jobs; collate projects, laminating, stapling and folding, and other clerical duties.
When children are hospitilized at Sanford Children's we have a school teacher who helps them keep up on their studies. Volunteers are utilized to assist school age patients with educational activities. Volunteers will interact with school age patients (5-18 years) at bedside or in a classroom at Sanford Children’s Hospital. Subject specific tutors are also needed to be "on-call' for Spanish, Physics and higher level math.
This volunteer position would be ideal for the individual interested in a career in speech or occupational therapy. Pediatric Therapy volunteers will assist staff in escorting patients between providers, interacting with siblings of patients, washing toys and cleaning the feeding therapy room between patients.
This is an excellent opportunity for volunteers interested in Pediatrics or Child Life. Volunteers will assist Pediatric Staff in playing and monitoring pediatric patients, washing toys, reading to patients, and rocking children. Volunteers will also provide supervision during free play time and occasional assistance with planned playroom activities. Volunteers may also assist in admissions and discharging patients.
This volunteer opportunity is perfect for people considering a career path in the medical or nursing field. The purpose is to provide a caring presence to older adult patients by visiting/reminiscing with patients, assisting with diversional but meaningful activities such as reading, crossword puzzles and games, offering snacks or beverages, or gentle hand massage.
