The Birth Place has family suites with all of the important amenities that make the birthing experience special. The Birth Place is located on the 5th floor of Medical Building 3, which is on the South side of the campus at Sanford USD Medical Center. Volunteers in the Birth Place greet visitors as they arrive. Answering phones, call lights and delivering flowers to patients are assigned duties to the volunteers. Volunteers will also walk new moms to the NICU and help with discharge of patients.

Bloom Boutique caters to cancer patients by offering a nice selection of wigs, hats and specialty skin care. Volunteers will assist customers, take phone calls and help with merchandise.

Do you love making crafts and want to help people at the same time? The Bottles of Hope project was started by a cancer survivor and polymer clay artist from Rhode Island and has spread internationally. Polymer clay is used to cover each bottle and can be sculpted, textured, blended or stamped to create unique pieces of art gifted to patients undergoing cancer treatments. The Bottles are easy to make-come join the fun!

Dakota Café is a bustling place where patients, families and staff catch up and get a bite to eat. Volunteers enhance the atmosphere by warmly greeting guests, carrying trays and keeping tables clean.

Do you want to be a kid again and love to play? The Sanford USD Medical Center Wellness Center has opportunities for individual who enjoy being with children ages 0-8 and help provide child care services while parents exercise at the Wellness Center located at 49th St. & Oxbow Ave. Volunteers play with children and interact with recreational activities for children.

Child’s Voice is an advocacy center for evaluating children who are suspected of being abused or neglected. As a volunteer, your primary role will be to sit with a child while his/her caregivers meet with the Child’s Voice Team. This is an opportunity to spend time with a child who could greatly benefit from the individual attention provided by an adult who cares. This is also an excellent opportunity for volunteers interested in social work. Volunteers will provide support by watching children while staff meets with parents, sitting with children and reading or playing games with children, ensuring that the children are supervised and safe.

Dialysis volunteers provide comfort and support for patients by reading, playing games or listening. Volunteers assist staff with transporting patients, restocking supplies and filing. If you want to make a difference, this is a great area for you.
