Do you have a friendly smile? Volunteers in the Van Demark Building welcome patients, provide information and directions to patients and families. Occassionally volunteers will need to push patients in a wheelchair to their destination.

Dialysis volunteers provide comfort and support for patients by reading, playing games or listening. Volunteers assist staff with transporting patients, restocking supplies and filing. If you want to make a difference, this is a great area for you.

Do you like to interact with people and want to get some exercise at the same time? If so, this is the volunteer position for you! Surgical Tower escorts take patient's family from the surgical area to patient's rooms and they also provide clerical and messenger support to staff.

Weekdays: 6:00AM - 10:00AM, 10:00AM - 2:00PM, 2:00PM - 6:00PM

Sometimes, patients do not have family or caregivers present due to absence or distance. Volunteers from No One Dies Alone provide companionship to patients who would like someone with them at the end of life. They also provide a presence to families who may need extra support during the final hours of a loved one’s life.

Do you want to volunteer and get some exercise at the same time? Are you a real people person? If so, you would make a great volunteer in Admissions. Admissions escorts at Sanford provide a warm welcome to patients and escort patients to test areas or patient rooms.

Child’s Voice is an advocacy center for evaluating children who are suspected of being abused or neglected. As a volunteer, your primary role will be to sit with a child while his/her caregivers meet with the Child’s Voice Team. This is an opportunity to spend time with a child who could greatly benefit from the individual attention provided by an adult who cares. This is also an excellent opportunity for volunteers interested in social work. Volunteers will provide support by watching children while staff meets with parents, sitting with children and reading or playing games with children, ensuring that the children are supervised and safe.

Tues, Wed, Thurs, Fri: 1:00PM - 5:00PM
Requirements:
Aged 19 and up. A background and a child abuse registry check is required by NCA Accreditation Standards. Also, preference will be given to year round volunteers.

Gift Shop volunteers provide “retail therapy” by touching the lives of patients, families and staff that come into the gift shop. Volunteers will assist gift shop staff in maintaining outstanding customer service by generating sales, merchandising, ringing transactions, taking phone orders and delivering flowers or gifts to patients’ rooms. Gift shop profits are used to support scholarships, patient care, programs and medical equipment here at Sanford USD Medical Center and Sanford Children’s Hospital.

Would you like to get a feel for what it's like to work in a medical setting? If so, being a G.I. Aide would be great experience. Volunteers in this area assist in discharging patients, cleaning carts, replacing linens and help support staff.

Dakota Café is a bustling place where patients, families and staff catch up and get a bite to eat. Volunteers enhance the atmosphere by warmly greeting guests, carrying trays and keeping tables clean.
